So we meet again…
February 4, 2010
Sorry for the long delay, I lost the will to blog for a short while there. But never fear! I’m back! I know you have all been on pins and needles waiting for my return to the blogosphere(that’s a word right?), that day has come.
I’m not going to even try to recap all the stuff that has happened. I will mention the Phillies made it back to the World Series, but they lost to the Yankees(they finally bought one!) The thing that pissed me off the most about the World Series(other than the fact that the Phillies lost of course) was the fact that the MVP of the ENTIRE series could not speak english. This simple fact has solidified the NFL as Americas sport, it is no longer baseball. You find me ONE just ONE NFL player that can’t speak enough english to be able to accept an award of any kind and I….well I just won’t believe you because there isn’t one.
In the offseason the Phillies traded Cliff Lee(yeah some how they get a great pitcher and lose the WS, how does that happen? Oh yeah I know! Brad Lidge was bad enough to cancel that factor out and then some.) Anyway they trade a top 5 picther(Lee) for the best pitcher in baseball Roy Halladay. So hopefully that works out, but it won’t…I mean that fact that the Phillies won the WS was amazing then for them to even get back the year after was a Miracle, there’s no more next level of unbelieveableness(it’d be like the Eagles winning the Super Bowl for the next decade….) So we’ll see how it goes next season….either way Go Phils.
Now on to my beloved Eagles…let me just start by saying the fact that the Eagles go 9-6-1 and make it to the NFC championship and then go 11-5 this year and get bumped in the first round of the playoff is beyond me(t0 be honest there is no other way that the franchise that is the Eagles could have been summed up any better, win when they aren’t supposed to and lose when they shouldn’t its actually quite beautiful….no…no its not.) The off season should be interesting, there’s a QB carousel between McNabb, Vick, and Kobb. Who stays who goes is yet to be seen, but I know who I’d be shipping off and who I would be keeping(McNabb stays Vick goes to buffalo and Kobb stays around and continues to hopefully become half the QB McNabb has been for us.) Knowing the Eagles they’ll keep all 3 and try to work Vick in a couple plays a game and have it not work(I mean Andy Reid forgets that we have running backs until someone reminds him…Coach I have legs I mean I can run the ball if you want? Oh yeah thats right…I forgot what the RB symbol stood for) How are we going to continue to work in 10 gadget plays a game to get Vick some run if we can’t even run the ball steadily. Plus Vick seems to think he is still a top 10 qb…well I guess we just got a steal then didn’t we?(no we didn’t cuz hes not a top 10 qb..duh). Okay that’s all for now i’ll try my best to satisfy the needs of my oh so many readers…
Philles are in the World Series….It’s not april 1st either….
October 18, 2008
I’m not kidding the Phillies are in the World Series for the first time since 1993. But it’s been 28 years since they’ve actually been able to say they were World Series Champions. They beat the Dodgers in 5 games in LA(much to the avail of Manny, he hit 2 homers in the series and had 7 rbi) I’m having trouble getting excited about this though, because being a fan of Philadelphia sports I am accustomed to being let-down, and brokenhearted(Sixers loss to the Lakers,Eagles being the poor man version of the Bills for 4 years then finally making it and then losing to the Pats) so I’m just going about the World Series as if they are already down 3-0 and destined for failure, that way instead of going into deep depression for a couple of weeks I can just be the “I told you so” fan. But I will root for them none the less and if they win, it will finally bring some respect back to Philly Sports and hopefully the Eagles and Sixers will see what the Phillies did and win a respective title(probably not….no, defiantly not)
Hey Red Soxs, thanks for making me look stupid!…bastards….The day of my post where I said that the Red Sox’s aren’t going to lose by 8 runs again at home they lose by 9!(well I guess I could spin it and say I was really smart because they didn’t lose by 8….no? your not gonna buy that?….alright) They did redeem themselves however in what seems to be like true Red Sox’s fashion, by being down by 7 runs in the 7th inning, and coming back to score 8 to steal one at home(can you steal one at home? isn’t that just like moving it?) They saved themselves from elimination and forced the series to go back to Tampa for the final two games and if they win this series I will dub them the greatest team in the Clutch of all time. Yeah I said it ALL TIME….they were down 3-0 to their Rival Yankee’s and won the series then the world series and they were down 3-1 to the Indians and also came back and won that series and the World Series again.(Hey Eagles,if the the Red Sox’s can be down 3 games and come back and win a series do you think you could play 2 quarters of good football in the second half?…..oh? that’s too much to ask? sorry)
Eagles have a bye this week so I officially have nothing to do this weekend(oh yeah…I do have this thing called a life?….nah)
Hey Phillies….re-sign Pat the Bat okay?
Well if you read the topic, you’ll know that the Cowboys made a trade today right before the deadline for the Lions Roy Williams and the Eagles Released Tony Hunt and signed Tracy White. When I initially heard this my first reaction was NO!!!!…then I remembered everything that has happened to that team within the past week. Romo is out for at least 4 weeks, Felix Jones is out for at-least 3 weeks for a partially torn hamstring, Their punter could be out for the season(and that hurts them as much as losing a punter could hurt a team) and Pac Man Jones is out indefinitely(at least 4 games) again because he violated his parole. Being that TO is still on the team bringing another big fast play making wide receiver for the team could make him pretty angry(at least I’m hoping) In other news Sean Alexander(yeah, remember him? He was the league MVP in 2005?…still nothing?….alright) signed with the Redskins on a one year contract. I kinda wish the Eagles would have at least entertained the thought of signing Alexander, because we could use a big running back for those red zone attempts we’ve been having trouble with. The Giants were the only team in in the NFC East that didn’t make any noticeable moves(probably because they were to busy getting killed by the Browns, guess Derek Anderson realized that they still have their first round pick in Brady Quinn around) The Giants loss really levels the playing field some what in the East, and proves that the Giants Offensive and Defensive lines aren’t unstoppable(which is great news to me!)
The NLCS and ALCS games 4 and 3 respectively took place last night. The Rays and the Red Sox’s was the first game to be played and the Rays started off with a bang scoring 5 runs in the first 3 innings and 4 in the final 2. Unfortunatley enough for the Red Sox’s they only managed 1 run in the seventh and ended up losing 9-1 to go down in the series 2-1. They have 2 more games in Boston though, don’t expect another 8 point loss at home again this series. The Phillies and Dodgers were the second game of the night the first inning was an exciting one, the Phillies scored 2 runs and the Dodgers 1. After that though the Phillies went scoreless till the 6th inning where they scored 1 run, while the Dodgers had no problem scoring 2 runs in the 5th and 2 runs in the 6th. At this point I was on pins and needles because up to this point the Phillies were leaving a lot of men on base, and it didn’t look like they were going to change that any time soon in this game. So I pretty much chalked this game up as a loss by the 8th inning until the Phil’s scored 4 runs off of a two run homer by Shane Victorino and another 2 run bomb by Matt Stairs….this momentum and the fact that Brad Lidge can’t seem to lose a save opportunity this year propelled the Philles to their 3rd win in the series and a pretty tight hold on the NLCS.(One thing I have learned over the years and years of being a fan of Philly sports is to never EVER predict anything, always plan for the worse…so for now…my mindset that were gonna drop the last 3 and lose, that’s gonna hurt)
Monday…..my favorite day
October 13, 2008
If I had to guess, I’d say Monday’s could rise to number 2 on the most things feared in life list very shortly(number one being TO after a catch-less game…yikes) But fear not people! For today is Monday! and it so happens to be a great Monday at that!….The Eagles FINALLY won a game in the second half, not before letting a field goal get block and returned for a touch down right before half, and not scoring a single point in the 3rd quarter while allowing the 49ers to score 10, (hey can’t say they don’t give their fans a game to watch) The game ended up being 40-26 the score didn’t really reflect how close the game was. Buckhalter really stepped up to the plate with Westbrook being out with having a Westbrook type of day where he rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown(he ran it in from the redzone too!….have I died and gone to heaven?) and 85 yards receiving. That win brings the Eagles to a .500 record at 3-3 and seeing as the Redskins lost to the Rams also(apparently the team decided they felt like playing?…I know weird right?) and the Cowboys lost the Cardinals in OT. It makes the NFC east a lot more interesting, with the Giants playing tonight against the biggest disappointment of the year so far(other than the fact that Al Davis is still alive)the Browns we could see it shake up even more.
Other news around the league, the texans and the before mentioned rams got their first wins on sunday against the dolphins and redskins respectively. That only leaves the Benglas and the Lions as the teams with out a win. The Bengals lost to the New York Favre’s and the Lions lost the only way the Lions could on a last second hail marry that set the Vikings up for a field goal as time expired(there are teams in the league that are praised for how well they win close games, I think everyone should be aware of how well the Lions blow close games, I’ve done the research, if the Lions won all the games that they were leading in 4th they would be 155-5 in the past ten years, I totally made that up I’m just saying they’re terrible.) The Chargers won the re-match of the AFC championship game(instead of them going to the super bowl though, they just managed to get back to being .500) The Packers beat the Seahawks in a game that I didn’t even know was being played(that’s how little press these two teams get) The Jaguars beat the Bronco’s in a game where the two teams finally played like they should(The Jaguars good, and the Bronco’s bad) Another two teams that played like they should were the Colts and Ravens(the Colts scoring a lot, and the Ravens not scoring) Jeff Garcia continued to maintain the over achieving season the Bucs are having by beating the Panthers who finally stumbled from their run of going 4-1 in the first 5 games. The Dolphins lost to the Texans on a last second scamper by Matt Shaub(he can run?) Which gave the Texans their first win(now Lions and Bengal’s don’t break my heart like the Dolphins did last year and win a game! If you must win, win now don’t wait till the second last game!)The Saints destroyed the Raiders who continue to be one of the worst teams in the NFL(Lions, don’t worry you still hold the title for number 1)The Falcons beat the Bears making that 4 more wins than anyone thought they would have this year.(They’re 4-2, that means no one thought they were going to win a game this year…just so were on the same page)
Phillies lost their first game last night 7-2 they’re up 2-1 in the series however. They’re in LA for games 4 and 5 then come back to Philly for the final 2 games if need be. The dodgers scored 5 runs in the first inning and Jamie Moyer only lasted an Inning and 3/4(I think during the game his alzheimers kicked in and he forgot where he was because he defiantly wasn’t pitching)They play game 4 tonight, and if Philly wants to really put the Dodgers on their backs they gotta take a game in LA.
The Rays tied up their series 1-1 beating the defending champs the Red Sox’s 8-9. This team looks better than I thought, so there’s potential for this series to go the distance and in that case I think the Rays have a pretty good shot. They play game 3 tonight also, same deal with the Rays as it is with the Phill’s except the Rays NEED to win in Boston to stay in this series.
Greg Oden for ROY?
Baseball in October, and “making it rain”
October 9, 2008
Well, Tonight is the first night for the NLCS, Phillies and Dodgers are going at it again which makes these playoffs have a throwback sorta feel to them…especially since the Ray’s are playing…boy do you know it’s the playoffs when the name Tampa Bay Rays is heard. The Phillies really need to win game 1 to establish some sort of hold on this series, if The Phil’s end up losing tonight I have a feeling its gonna be a long road ahead…(Manny, feel free to roll around on balls in the out field and not run out grounders….hey that’s what people love you for anyway!) Cole Hamels is on the mound for the Phillies tonight who is flat out the Phillies best pitcher…(considering we have one guy that was in the Minors this year already, and another who is a dedicated memeber of the AARP) Derek Lowe will be the Dodgers hurler tonight who is their obvious ace also….I predict that if the Phillies start out quick and score some early runs and Hamels can shut down the dodgers hitters…and contain Manny….we should be able to pull this one out….however if the reverse happens and the dodgers score some early runs and the Phillies have to go to their bullpen early(the Phillies have a bullpen right?…oh they’re just not good?….okay) we could be in trouble.
In other news, Adam Jones made the news again this week, and oh? you don’t know who that is?…okay sorry Pac Man Jones….better?….yeah the guy who “made it rain”….yeah him….he got into a fight with HIS….okay let me say it again just so your not confused HISSSSSS own body guard….now correct me if I’m wrong (and I’m not) aren’t body guards supposed to protect you from people?….not to be used as a personal punching bag?….he did make it rain on the body guards unconscious body afterwards.(no he didn’t) The good news (for him, not eagles fans) is that he won’t be fined or suspended by the cowboys or the league.(They figured having TO as a teammate was punishment enough)
One last thing…the Pittsburgh Panthers soccer team tied West Virgina last night 1-1..(I don’t like soccer at all, I have no knowledge about the sport, all I know is that if you touch the ball with your hands, your team gets mad at you, the only reason I put this on here is because one of my good friends plays for the team, and I’m trying my best to make sure he stays my friend just incase he becomes famous one day, maybe I can score some money off him.)
Alright, Go Phil’s!
Say it ain’t so…
October 7, 2008
Alright, so yesterday I come to find that Brian Westbrook, the star running back, and one of the best duel threat running backs in the NFL who was just coming of a sprained ankle that kept him out of the game against the bears(which we lost!). Suffered two cracked ribs in the Redskins game this weekend. As of now he’s not sure wether or not he’s gonna be ready for this weekends game against the 49ers(but I sure hope he is). It’s funny because, I actually found a thesaurus in my room today, and I looked up the word injury…and wouldn’t you know it, a team picture of the Philadelphia Eagles was right there! (with the exception of starting right tackle John Runyan who has started 180 games consecutively) now only if he could spread that disease around to the rest of the team! 49ers haven’t looked all that great this season, the Eagles SHOULD (and I say that knowing all the risks I’m taking) be able to beat them without Westbrook(I hope.)
Well, ALCS is finally set after last night two games, the young up start Rays(so thats the trick, all you gotta do is drop a couple words in your teams name and you make it to the championship…..Lets go Philadelphia Eag’s!) are going to go up the seasoned veterans of the Boston Red Sox’s. Seems to me like the Rays are the trendy pick since they beat the sox’s more in the regular season, but I think they’re inexperience is gonna finally catch up to them and they’re gonna fall in 6 or 7 games.
The Phillies and the Dodgers are playing for the rights to be called National League Champion. Seeing as how the Dodgers actually matched up pretty well with the Cubs, which played in a large part in them beating them(also Manny was being Manny the WHOLE time, and that makes them pretty decent too) I don’t think they are better than the Cubs. Thats why I’m gonna say that the Phillies are gonna come outta this series in 5 or 6 games and make it back to the World Series. Seeing as how the Sox’s broke their curse, why don’t you let us have this one? I also think that in the World series maybe they should consider that if they do indeed beat the Phillies in the World Series the entire city of Philadelphia will be on suicide watch for a while(Please Red Sox’s just let us have this one….I just want to see a Philly team win some sort of championship in my life time…..what?….no I’m not counting the Soul’s Arena Bowl Championship…..no, i’m not….allllright i guess i’ll take it) On that note I’m predicting a Sox’s win in 6 and once again take another World Series title. Which would make it their 3rd in 5 years.
…greedy bastards
First and Foremost…
October 6, 2008
Alright, Hello and Welcome to my first blog ever!
I am a die hard Philadelphia sports fan, mostly a fan of the Eagles(I’ll take all your sympathy) and Phillies and Sixers. Not real big into to hockey, so sorry flyers fans, I’ll probably only mention them if they are making some sort of playoff run or if they’re doing historically bad(something philly teams have no trouble doing). Other than just Philly sports I love sports in general, so I made this blog to talk about my opinions about what’s going on in the sports world. Oh, one last thing, I am no way shape or form a “good” writer in my opinion, so if you’ve come here to look for proper english and grammar I’m sorry, your only gonna find my opinion poorly articulated through the computer.
Alright! Enough Intro’s onto the stuff I wanna talk about. We just finished week 5 of the NFL football season, where I must say is shaping up to be a very, very interesting season. I’ll break down the league by divisions on where they stand as of now.
NFC EAST
Of course the Eagles are on their yearly path of underachieving, losing games they shouldn’t, and not being able to score in the red zone, making them 2-3 and last in the NFC East. The rest of the NFC East however has hit the ground running with the giants being 4-0 coming off their bye week beating Seattle, which isn’t saying much considering I could start at Wide Receiver for them. The Cowboys are 4-1 narrowly beating the Bengal’s, and the Redskins are 4-1 beating my Eagles. In this division it started out looking like the team to beat was the Cowboys, but now it seems like the Giants are having the quietest season after a Super Bowl victory in the history of the NFL. I wish I could say the Eagles may come out of this division with a wild-card birth but with the other 3 teams in this division playing like they are, right now it would take a lot of that to happen.
NFC North
The surprising Chicago Bears lead this division with a 3-2 record coming off a win against the Lions, who still haven’t seemed to grasp the concept of playing football yet(don’t worry lions fans, you’re on your, way! Matt Millen is gone!…oh wait Jon Kitna’s still there?….nevermind). The Green Bay Aaron Rodgers are 2-3 after losing a heart breaking to the Atlanta Falcons a team that everyone thought would struggle to win a game this year(maybe we shoulda kept that Favre guy?) The disappointing Vikings are 1-3 with a game tonight against the Saints on Monday Night Football. And the lions are 0-4, I would write more but…really…who cares.
NFC South
The Carolina Panthers lead this division with a 4-1 record after absolutely destroying the Kansas City Chiefs. Tampa Bay and Atlanta are tied at for two with records of 3-2, which both come somewhat of a surprise after beating Denver, and Green Bay respectively. The Saints which in my opinion is the most talented team in this division is last with a record of 2-2.
NFC West
The Cardinals took the lead in the division this week with a blow-out win over the Bills. Arizona fans don’t get excited the Cardinals won’t make the playoffs, they could go 16-0 in the regular season and now make the play-offs, the NFL playoffs wouldn’t be the NFL playoffs if the Cardinals were in it, I’m sorry. The 49ers and are 2-3 after losing to the Brady-less pats..that’s embarrassing. The Seahawks are 1-4 mainly because Matt Hasselbeck’s leading receiver after 5 games is John Carlson(who?) yeah exactly. And the rams are 0-4 I’m predicting the rams only end up playing 11 games because after that the rams defense is just going to stop showing up to games…I can see it now…”Hey guys, come on we got a game…wait….are you drinking?….you know we have a game in 15 minutes right?……ah….don’t throw up…
AFC East
Well the Patriots continue they’re dominance again starting off the season 4-0….woops sorry wrong year….The 3-1 Patriots are actually 2nd in division to the 4-1 Buffalo/Toronto(I don’t know what they want to be called anymore) Bills, a team that once ruled the division like the Pats have done most recently. Followed by the Brett Favre lead Jets at 2-2 and the Miami Dolphins at 2-2 also. I’m not sold on the Bills yet, so I’m gonna keep an eye on this division, seeing as Trent Edwards went down with a concussion early in the game(costing me my fantasy game this week!…Hey Coach Jauron next time something like this happens just put him in the game tape the ball to his hands and push him into the end zone, at least this way i’ll get points for a rushing touchdown.)
AFC North
The 4-1 Steelers lead this division after beating a confusing Jaguars team who I personally thought was the team to beat after Brady went down…guess not. Next in line is the Baltimore Ravens at 2-2 who lost a close one, to who seems like the team to beat in the AFC in the Tennessee Titans. In third place are the Browns nothing new to them, but a team many thought were going to be better, seeing as how the NFL put them on the National Spot light (ha, the browns on prime time…who are these people?) and in last place are the Bengal’s who are 0-5…where did the 05 Bengal’s go? The team that had an offense that was Second to none…oh yeah they have a receiver named Chad Ocho-Cinco…okay it makes sense now.
AFC South
This division is lead by the 5-0 Titans a team that looks like a real threat to make a deep run into the playoffs, they have a good defense and a great young play making quarterback…..wait…Kerry Collins is still Alive? and He’s starting?! over Vince Young?! okay…they have an old slow quarterback who makes smart decisions. Sounds like the Ravens team that beat Collins’s Giants in the super bowl….thats intriguing. In second are the 2-3 Jaguars who have disappointed me and the team in third place in this division which is also a disappointment are the 2-2 Colts who have not deserved to win all 2 of their games. In last place are the 0-4 Texans, hey on the bright side it looks like the Mario Williams thing panned out alright….you can come out of hiding now Charley Casserly(texans gm).
AFC West
This division is lead by the 4-1 Broncos who got beat by the Chiefs and barley beat the 3-2 Buccaneers, I don’t know about this team yet..Cutler to Marshall has been good so far, lets see how far this shaky defense lets them go. Next up are the HUGLEY disappointing AFC championship runners-up the San Diego not so super Chargers they are 2-3 and are up and down every week, you never know what team your going to get with these guys, you could get the team that spanked the jets 48-29 or you could get the team that couldn’t beat the Miami Dolphins last week…who knows?..not me. In third are the 1-3 Raiders…who’s Owner Al Davis looks like he’s been dead for almost 2 years, and still insists he knows how to run a football team, even tho he remember his own name…Mr Davis…..excuse me Mr. Davis….WHO ARE YOU?!?! and why do you keep calling me Mr. Davis?!?…because your thats your name….Mr. Davis…I don’t know what or who your talking about…but have you seen the football team I own play? I own them right?….yes sir….good…good. And Finally the Chiefs at 1-4 round out this division…they’ve had 3 different starting qb’s in 5 games…and one of them was named Tyler Thigpen… I know…I know.
ALLLLLLRIGHTY now that you’re all done reading that…(which I’m sure you read every word right?)…Lets talk quickly about some baseball. The Phillies beat the Brewers in 5 games(when you pinch hit your pitcher, your pretty much asking to lose a series) and are back in the NLCS for the first time since 1993. They’ll be taking on the Dodgers a team they’ve faced 10 times in the NLCS already. This outta be a good series, but I’m just waiting for the Phillies either 1.) Lose now and break my heart 2.) Win, and lose in the World Series and break my heart or 3.) Win the World Seri…..haha(I say this only so I don’t get my hopes up, if and when they do lose, if being a Philly fan has taught me one thing, it’s to never EVER have expectations!)….The ALCS is still to be determined but if it works out the way I see it, it should pit the Rays vs the Red Sox which would also be a very interesting match up.
Basketball season’s coming up!….
